This may be old news, but I just recently discovered the existence of the TV Hat and it looks pretty amazing. The informercial plays out like a Saturday Night Live skit, but believe it or not, this thing is real. It’s basically just a pouch with a magnifying glass to hold your iPod Touch or iPhone. And I need one… like now.
Sick of all the marketing for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World yet? No? Well, I am, and I actually like the comics. Anyway, here’s a cool little animated short that Adult Swim did based on a River City Ransom-inspired flashback scene from Vol. 2. The actors from the movie all voice their respective characters. One can only hope this will eventually lead to a full blown animated series. Enjoy!
Well, the next Bioshock game has been unveiled, and apparently it will be a prequel called Bioshock: Infinite. This time the folks at Irrational have shaken up the franchise a bit by setting the game in a giant air city suspended by blimps and balloons in 1912. The art design seems to draw from early 19th century American propaganda, and it sounds like the overall gameplay will be pretty different from the previous two Bioshock games. Although I still haven’t even touched Bioshock 2, I’m glad to see them changing things up to avoid becoming stagnant. (Of course, the game won’t be out for another two years so I’ve still got plenty of time to catch up.) For more info, visit the game’s official site.
’90s rockers Helmet return next month with their seventh studio album Seeing Eye Dog. My good friend Derrick got me into these guys back in the day, and they were definitely among some of the heavier bands I ever listened to, although they took an almost academic approach to it all (frontman Page Hamilton studied jazz guitar). Inspiring the Drop D tuning style of bands like The Deftones, Korn and Tool, it’s safe to say that they had a big influence in the direction of music in the ’90s even if they never really hit the big time.

I have to admit, outside of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated shorts, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a full episode of anything Genndy Tartakovsky has done. However, I generally dig his art style and sense of humour and I’ve caught enough of Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack to be interested in his new series Sym-Bionic Titan. The story involves three aliens who, after crash landing on Earth, disguise themselves as high school students and defend the planet by piloting giant robots. Having grown up watching Voltron every day after school, I can’t help but be smitten by the concept. Sym-Bionic Titan will premiere on The Cartoon Network sometime in September. Check out a short promo and a clip after the jump.
From the genius who brought you last year’s killer jam “Take U to Da Movies”, our boy Bangs has just dropped a fresh track on YouTube. You can still download his album Hard To Be Up for free right here.

Well, I think that clinches it… Weezer are officially the cheesiest band ever. Their new album is called Hurley and the cover artwork is simply a close-up of Lost star Jorge Garcia’s face. If it was any other band, I would just assume this was a joke. But not Weezer. I guess we should be glad they didn’t go with any of the other album titles that Rivers was considering. Heavy Mental? *Shudder*
