Wow, I had heard the rumours about a Microsoft Zune / Xbox Handheld phone for a couple of years now, but I had no idea that Sony was working on a Playstation phone. This is still just a prototype, but it is apparently the real deal. As you can see it’s a Sony Ericsson phone with a slide out PSPgo-style controller, and word on the street is that it will be running Android 3.0.
The handheld gaming market is getting intense, and if I were Nintendo I’d be more than a little worried that they’re missing the boat with their 3DS. Apple has kind of proven that phones are the handheld gaming devices of the future. They are the thing that you always carry with you wherever you go, and having a built-in D-pad looks pretty damn sweet.

That’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen. Not to mention Sony is about three years too late to the party. The iphone has pretty much cornered the phone-video game market.
Anroid kicks butt! And I’m sure Sony Ericsson will work on the design. They have won designer prices in the past for other models. The iPhone is not the only phone on this planet…
I know it’s not the only phone. I really don’t care if there’s a Playstation phone, just saying that Sony is a little late in getting this out. With the installation base of the iphone and ipod touch, it’s going to be hard to compete. And I realize that’s a prototype, so hopefully the design does improve.
Personally I’d love it if they would release a D-pad attachment for the iPhone. But yeah I think the iPhone install base is going to be tough to crack.
It took me this long to finally get a PSP, and even now there aren’t a ton of must-have games for it. They’ll need a killer app… and it can’t just be a port of Angry Birds.
