If you’ve been enjoying the resurgence of point-and-click adventures thanks to folks like Telltale Games, and you’re in the market for something a little bit edgier, you might want to check out an iPhone game called Hector: Badge of Carnage. Developed by Irish animation studio Straandlooper, it’s an adventure game about a drunk and depraved police detective named Hector who reluctantly gets called in to help with a hostage situation. To put it in old school Sierra terms, it’s a bit like Police Quest meets Leisure Suit Larry with a British accent.

Although in some cases the iPhone or iPod Touch is too small for these kinds of games, the interface they’ve come up with is simple and doesn’t take up much screen space. (Hector: BoC is also available for the iPad.) More importantly, the game has some great voice acting, slick 2-D animation, and while the R-rated humour definitely makes it stand out, I’m happy to report that it is also genuinely funny. They’re rolling out the game in chapters just like Telltale, and the first chapter is up on the App Store now for $3.99. Well worth the price of admission.
