I’m just here to confirm what most of you have probably already realized: Twitter killed my personal blog. Hey, it was bound to happen eventually… this site was seriously lacking a direction in the first place. I just wanted somewhere to share some quick thoughts and random links, and now Twitter has filled that void, for better or worse. Most of my posts here had already been whittled down to single sentence anyway.
It seems like a lot of other people are experiencing the same problem. It’s pretty hard to resist sending out a quick 140 character message instead of putting in the extra time to write up a full post about something. For all I know, Twitter may kill blogging entirely (followed by every other form of intelligent communication on the planet Earth). It’s just so quick and easy, and allows for more immediate feedback. Besides, would it really be such a bad thing if there were a few million less blogs out there?
So for now this site will probably just remain a shell for my Twitter account and a central hub for any other projects I’ve got going on. I may throw up the occasional longer post, but I don’t think the “Media Bytes” sub-heading will really apply anymore. I’d like to redesign it all if I can get up the motivation, but until then, what you see is what you get.
I should mention that I’m currently trying to revive my dying music blog by shifting toward music videos instead of MP3s. I’m not sure if it will stick, but my main concern right now is keeping it easy to update. I’ve also had ideas for a couple of other blogs on the back burner for a while now, but I think the only way they’ll ever see the light of day is if Film Junk outlives its usefulness (which is something I’m starting to feel almost every other day).
In conclusion, if you want to be where the action is, make sure you follow @filmjunk on Twitter, subscribe to the RSS feed, or simply bookmark my Twitter page.

I hope I didn’t read that right. Filmjunk outliving it’s usefulness? say it isn’t so. I hope you won’t give that up anytime soon. It’s my favorite place to go!
What the fuck does film junk outliving it’s usefulness mean? Please, PLEASE, don’t actually tell me your considering shutting down film junk. Do you have any idea the withdrawl I would go through? It’s useful to me dude, it’s useful to me.
It’s just that there are 5 billion other movie blogs out there too. Being on Twitter only magnifies that fact. If we went away tomorrow, I’m sure you’d easily be able to find another site to suit your needs.
I wouldn’t because I like you guys.
Listening to /film or any other movie podcast hurts my brain. It’s the same news! It’s the guys that matter.
What FilmJunk has that makes it special, is the unique podcast that you guys run, not the updating news part. The FilmJunk and Cantankerous podcasts are two of the best things on the net, it would be a shame to lose them, especially if the idea of quitting came from you Sean, you’re the core of it all. You make things run smoothly, while at time a bit dry, you are what hold things together and we’ve got the 3 other guys for comic relief!
Twitter needs to die, and soon. Luckily, celebrities are bursting the Twitter bubble nicely.
Throwing away a blog for Twitter is about as short sighted as dumping Lost for Heroes.
I almost had a similar situation. When I created a Twitter account, it was supposed to act as a sort of mini-update for my personal blog because I like to write long - which is something I can’t do on a daily basis - and the sidebar tweets let people know that I wasn’t dead or something. Pretty soon, I got into the habit of char counts instead of word counts. And now I’m slowly and painfully starting to get into the habit of keeping both updates consistent with another.
I think Twitter is here to stay whether people like it or not. It’s just another form of communication like e-mail and instant messaging.
If Film Junk went away I think we would keep doing the podcasts, or at least that’s how I see it. But we’ll see what happens.
I seriously dont see Twitter lasting. It seems like a Friendsterish fad and way too many people absolutely loathe it for it to remain fashionable.
I only use twitter to promote my blog…there’s plenty of people that need to read something a bit more “solid” out there.
P.S I feel there’s only one other film podcast that matches yours out there. your sites well made as well. you can’t take that away from people!
I think I would like Twitter, but I just don’t care what people have to say. Ha ha.
I hardly ever frequent a blog even if I like the subsequent podcast and people, but I always keep up with Film Junk. Not sure why. Its just about the perfect amount of content though. Every day I can check it and see a handful of new posts, but not so much that I’m overwhelmed.
I cannot believe this will work!
Still believe that Twitter could start to annoy people if it doesn’t evolve quickly and keep up with the spammers. This is the biggest problem not to mention people claiming to be other people and twittering as them. We all know every blog is not always written by it’s owner but that’s different altogether.
