Today I was getting gas at Esso when a guy pulled up beside me and said, “Psst… hey buddy! Wanna buy some kick ass speakers? You know, for your place? I’ll give you a real good deal.” This was at lunch time and the gas station was packed. It kind of caught me off guard, I mean, does that actually ever work? What kind of person is going to be at a gas station, get offered a sketchy deal on some speakers that are obviously stolen, and think, “You know what, show me what you’ve got! Do you have any big screen TVs to go with them?” Someone needs to introduce this man to E-bay or Craigslist. (Although I suppose if they really were stolen then maybe gas stations are the only way to go.)
We’re almost done installing laminate flooring in our rec room, which means this gruelling 8 month project is FINALLY almost complete. Okay, so maybe it hasn’t been all that gruelling… but we’re pretty lazy, what can I say? When we bought our house, the rec room was essentially finished and we just expected to be able to move in and make use of it. Then we discovered there were rips in the carpet, an ugly desk built into the wall and a crack in the foundation. Needless to say, we had to completely tear the room apart and start from scratch. It’s a good thing Alicia’s dad is as handy as he is because I’m pretty much helpless when it comes to power tools and things of that sort. Tim Allen would not be proud. Now I’m on a quest to find the ultimate home theatre seating.
Did you notice that last night’s episode of Lost was written by Y The Last Man creator Brian K. Vaughn? Really though, how could you miss it, what with the witty Flash/Superman argument, the Phil Collins “mixtape” and Catch 22 reference? To be fair, the pop culture references were kept mostly to a minimum, and it was a decent episode although a bit less exciting than the last few. Am I the only one who was actually relieved when it looked like Charlie was finally about to… oh, I suppose that’s a spoiler. This season my interest in the show has been reinvigorated mainly due to the reintroduction of supernatural elements and flashbacks that actually mean something. Those episodes about Jack’s tattoo and Hurley finding the car were pretty horrendous though.
Speaking of Lost, apparently Ubisoft is making a Lost video game. I want to be excited about it, but I’m sure it will be just another licensed piece of crap. Seriously though, how would that even work? There isn’t all that much action in the show to begin with.
Hot Fuzz opens this weekend and what do you know… it’s actually playing at the Niagara Square cinemas! I did not expect to see it around here considering it is a somewhat limited release. I am pretty psyched, hopefully we can find time to see it at some point this weekend.
Now that The O.C. is finished, Adam Brody wants everyone to know that he’s not really a nerd. It was all an act, honest! F’n poseur.
The state of California is trying to pass legislation that would allow them to place GPS tracking devices on convicted gang members who are currently on probation. Man, if someone from an opposing gang got their hands on the frequencies, that would be a real-life video game just waiting to happen.
